IPD Group Powers the Future of Engineering Talent with New Power Systems Lab at SLIIT

In a landmark initiative to support the next generation of electrical engineers, IPD Colombo, a part of the IPD Group, has inaugurated the first-ever IPD Power Systems Laboratory at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), Malabe campus.

The facility was officially opened on May 28th, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 30th between Prof. Rathnayake, Chairman of SLIIT, and Mr. Mohamed Yoosuff, Chairman of IPD Colombo. The lab is designed to provide hands-on experience and practical training in switchgear and power systems, equipping students with the skills required to succeed in today’s energy sector.

This collaboration marks a strategic step forward in IPD Group’s commitment to advancing engineering education and strengthening the connection between academic theory and real-world industry practice. The Power Systems Laboratory is a tangible representation of IPD’s vision to empower engineering students with the tools and exposure they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving technical landscape.

Speaking at the opening, Eng. Arjuna Jayadarshana toured the facility and inspected the state-of-the-art equipment donated by IPD Colombo, reinforcing the Group’s investment in education and technical excellence.

Registered under the Colombo Port City project, IPD Colombo is a key player in delivering engineering solutions and exporting technical expertise across the region. The company continues to lead initiatives that create global opportunities for Sri Lankan engineers while contributing meaningfully to local talent development.

IPD Colombo, under the leadership of Mr. Yoosuff, is actively exploring opportunities to extend the initiative, with future workshops and collaborative programs planned to benefit electrical engineering students from universities across Sri Lanka.

Beyond technical development, IPD Colombo places a strong emphasis on holistic employee growth. The company supports ongoing leadership and communication training and fosters a vibrant culture through sports and wellness activities, including cricket, badminton, swimming, and chess, building a well-rounded, motivated workforce.

As part of the broader IPD Group, this initiative reflects our enduring commitment to educational partnerships, engineering excellence, and sustainable professional development, ensuring our industry and communities thrive together.
